In my short visit to Amer close to Jaipur, the most fascinating place for me wasn't the Fort and the palace of the Rajput Maharajas, but the Shiva temple in the village below with shrines showing a archaic simplicity. The Maharajas of the 16th centuries in Amer still used to sacrifice humans to goddess Kali(legend says, in daily offerings). In the famous Kali temple in the Fort it is not allowed to photograph, but the Shiva temple in the village is accessible.
