devotee touching feet of Kumari with her forehead to receive blessings during dashein festival time in Newar city Bhaktapur, Kathmandu valley, Nepal, October 2011
Kumari is the tradition of worshipping a ritual selected young prepubescent girl as manifestation of the divine female energy or devi in Hindu tradition. Kumari means young unmarried girl (Kumar means unmarried man, both names are also popular first names in Nepal). Red colored feets can be seen often in holy hindu ceremonies.
